Welcome to Elementary and Lone Hill Middle School Band 2017-18!

Welcome band parents and students to the 2017-18 school year!

Lone Hill and the Elementary band program have separate pages in the “MENU” on the top of this page with information specific for each group. Please click on the program your child belongs to for information on their program. There is an online student information sheet that needs to be filled out for every member of the band at Lone Hill, but not for elementary bands.  Full calendars of both groups are available on those pages as well!

Please sign up for the Remind text message system so that you don’t miss important updates.  This must be re-done every year even if your child is continuing in the same band.  Click on “Contact Info and Remind Text Instructions for All Bands” in the “MENU” at the top of this page.

Below is some general information for all bands.  More specific info is available on the band program’s individual pages also listed in the “MENU” at the top of this page.

All four elementary school beginning bands and Lone Hill’s Beginning and Intermediate Bands use the same method book:

Essential Elements 2000, Book 1 for their instrument of choice.

When looking to buy or rent an instrument, please make sure it is a good quality brand.  The local music stores only have quality equipment.  I highly encourage renting instead of buying at first.  Be very wary of instruments for sale online.  Many have very low prices but they are not good quality at all!  If you want to check with me, send me an email with link and I will tell you if it is a good buy.  Basically if it seems to good to be true, it probably is!

Here is a sample of some good quality instruments:

Selmer, Bundy, Bach, Yamaha, Jupiter, Gemeinhardt
There are others so just ask me before you buy!

Here are some of the music stores in the area:

Gard’s Music, Glendora
San Dimas Music, San Dimas
JMIR Instrument Repair, San Dimas
Singer Music, La Puente

This is just a sample of the stores I have used in the past. There are others that you are free to visit if you wish.

These are the items your child will need in order to start their band class:

Flutes:  instrument and method book (music stand if elementary)

Clarinets:  instrument, three reeds size 2 ½ and method book (music stand if elementary)

Alto saxophone: instrument, three reeds size 2 ½ and method book (music stand if elementary)

Tenor saxophones: instrument, three reeds size 2, and method book (music stand if elementary)

Trumpet/Trombone/Baritone/Tuba: instrument and method book (music stand if elementary)

Looking forward to a wonderful year with the kids!
